Project List
- Rear sidewalk - For some time I've been wanting to create a brick paver sidewalk going from the driveway and garage to the back door of the home. Of course I wanted to finish the screened in porch first - since the sidewalk wraps around this feature - and that project is almost completed. This will probably be one of the next projects on my to do list as I already have the paver and recently picked up some stone dust that's sitting in a pile next to the garage
- Front Porch - Another project I'm hoping to get to soon is the front porch. No craftsman bungalow would be complete without one, and my wife and I have begun spending more time out there as the weather gets warmer. The porch really needs a new coat of paint and some updating. Probably not a big project, just sanding, caulking and painting, but its another matter of finding the time.
- Vegetable Garden - I don't know if I'm going to get to this project this year or not, its already nearing Memorial Day and if I wanted to plant I should be getting ready to do so. I wanted to place the garden to the rear of the yard, but after charting out the sun patterns it seems there is no spot in the back that gets enough sunlight. The area behind the garage would probably be ideal for the sunlight, but its also a central area in the yard and I want to really make it look nice if I put it there. So far I'm thinking about raised beds, gravel walkways and a nice fence wrapping around the garden - not just for ascetics but also to keep the deer out. Maybe I'll get to the structural elements this fall so I'm ready to plant next spring.
- Windows - One of the thing I loved about our home when we first purchased it are the windows -the wavy glass that only comes with time - until the first winter. That's why I realized just how much of draft was coming in through those windows, and how much heat was likely going out. While this project will likely have to wait on available finances, I would love to replace all of the windows in the house with those containing insulated glass. If I can get it done this year, maybe we can take advantage of the federal tax credit. We'll just have to see.
- Central Air - At some point I'd love to put central air conditioning in the home. We already have forced air heat - so the duct work wouldn't be an issue. This project however - like the windows - also comes to down to available money to purchase the materials. While I've been able to find a of materials for other projects through inexpensive sources - like Craigslist and Restore - I doubt anyone would be selling a used but perfectly good central air system. That doesn't mean of course that I won't keep my eye out for one anyway. You just never know.
